Cubase 11 pro logo7/30/2023 ![]() The module displays true peak, integrated loudness, short‑term loudness, momentary maximum and loudness range and, amongst other configurable options, is switchable between LU or LUFS units. However, the range of options is impressive and a few of the modules are worth further comment.įor example, the Signal category includes a well‑featured Loudness module that follows the EBU R128 reference. ![]() Many of these are relatively straightforward, such as the Level module within the Signal category, or the Spectrum Bar (a frequency‑based histogram) within the Spectral Domain category. The 18 available modules fall into a number of categories: Signal, Spectral Domain, Phase, Spatial Domain, Waveform and Other. SuperVision is a single plug‑in, which can be placed as an insert anywhere it’s required to visualise your audio signals, but is actually an assemblage of modules that the user can configure and customise. SuperVision provides a powerful and flexible suite of visualisation modules including Loudness (top left), Chromograph (top right) and Multipanorama (bottom left) amongst many others. Cubase 11’s new SuperVision plug‑in provides an excellent starting point in that regard. Acquiring top‑notch audio visualisation skills might, therefore, come a close second to ‘golden ears’ on your list of desirable superpowers as a budding mixing or mastering superhero. While there is truth in the old adage that if it sounds right, it is right, a visual representation of your audio can offer all sorts of helpful insights. For example, Elements now includes side‑chaining options and Artist now includes support for VariAudio 3, ARA2 and unlimited audio, MIDI or instrument tracks. And while not all of these new features trickle down to the Artist and Elements versions, in both cases, there are some nice surprises. That said, on paper, for users of the Pro version, the list of ‘new and improved’ in this upgrade is impressive. While v11 brings all sorts of worthwhile new developments, if you are part of that large user‑base and Cubase helps put food on your table, you can breathe easy moving from any recent (10 or 10.5, for example) version to Cubase 11 is a smooth and painless transition. The current DAW/sequencer marketplace includes many excellent choices, and Cubase is undoubtedly one of the ‘giants’ amongst this product group, with a long history, a large user base, and a comprehensive feature set. So, just what are Steinberg adding in Cubase 11 that might entice existing users to upgrade, or tempt potential new users to take the plunge? On The Shoulders Of Giants Those happy with their current version can, of course, choose to stick but, when presented with a long list of improvements and new features, the temptation to twist can be high. These regular annual upgrade cycles bring out different responses in users. Cubase 11 - in Pro, Artist and Elements versions - is therefore now with us. For many years, Steinberg have been very consistent on this front, with annual upgrades to Cubase released towards the year end. While death and taxes may still be the trump cards in the game of certainty, the inevitability of a tempting upgrade to your favourite music production software can’t come far behind. They’re ultimately no more efficient than just piling up some wood on the ground and burning it. Paying $50 or $150 typically just buys you thicker sheet metal and some extra time until the whole thing rusts out. They’re almost all identical in their fundamental design, and the price differences can all be chalked up to construction quality. Some have holes and some have mesh, but they’re little more than trash cans you make a fire in. Traditional fire pits are, more or less, just metal tubs. Anything that increases the efficiency of the combustion will decrease the amount of smoke in the air and the level of ash in the pan. While firewood selection is important-seasoned hardwood will always burn better than damp pine-the fire pit itself can make a huge difference. They’re a new breed of fire pit on the market that you may or may not already be familiar with and, of which, the Solo Stove product line is the best known.įirst, why are fire pits smoky? Well, the report included even more stuff than we knew was inside the system, so the app deserves the thumbs for its detection power. These files were dropped by a bunch of browser hijackers we had previously analyzed on our lab laptop. Technically, the spammy objects in the list are tracking cookies and other adware leftovers. Probably due to higher severity, the latter ended up in the Quarantine automatically. Combo Cleaner categorized 10 out 11 issues as spam, flagging the remaining item as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Having waited for well over two hours until the first quick scan was through, we could finally view the list of the detected threats. How well does Combo Cleaner detect and remove Windows threats? Is the wait worth it? We will touch upon this further down. Moreover, we periodically experienced sluggish system performance along the way. On the other hand, scrutinizing more than 450,000 files feels like a full rather than a quick first scan. On the one hand, this is understandable because the program needs to “familiarize itself” with your PC, and this can’t be fast. It took Combo Cleaner more than two hours to complete it, which seems to be blown out of proportion. From where we stand, the initial scan (even a quick one) is painfully slow, although it only checks the most vulnerable areas of the system. Now that you have an idea of the app usage and customization basics, let’s move on to the scan. ![]() The reply will be sent to the email address specified in the form. Combo Cleaner updating its malware signaturesĬlicking the gear icon at the top of the UI gets you straight to the app’s settings. The detection history and disk tools are accessible from the middle part, and the right-hand area provides slide toggles to enable or disable the real-time protection modules. The left-hand section contains the scan modes along with anti-malware definitions stats. Its upper part displays the available amount of disk space, memory, and CPU. Speaking of which, the program’s main dashboard looks clean, and the information in every area is easy to interpret. The progress of this workflow is shown at the bottom left of the home screen. Once Combo Cleaner starts, it downloads the latest signature updates. In case you stick with the default set-ups, you can tweak them via the app’s Settings later on. ![]() All it takes is downloading the 3.4 MB stub installer, launching it, and making some initial customizations if you so desire (see screenshot below). I wouldn’t feel comfortable going to some random BLM land and setting up a shooting target, nor would I want to inadvertently set up camp on a shooting range. There seems to always be some restriction somewhere that isn’t widely known. This needs to be improved because I still don’t feel right about camping somewhere that no one has left a comment about. The app is a good starting place, but then I have to go through another step to learn more about an area. Now, there is a camp ground at Mission Bay, it is not listed and it cost over $100 a night.Ģ. Specifically- Mission Bay is not a free camping area. With something like camping, it can be dangerous or inconvenient if bad info can’t be changed. Student self reflection7/30/2023 ![]() The idea is to do more than just plan the work, but also to reflect on how students will interact with the learning opportunities presented. As you plan your lessons, imagine students participating in direct instruction, working through guided or independent practice, collaborating in small groups, or reacting to your purposefully placed questions. You need to prepare in advance don’t wing it! 4. Spend time in your instructional planning being specific about the tasks and questions planned. To make the most of these small-group learning opportunities, the key is an appropriately placed task or question. Of course, in an actual classroom, you can create space for students to meet face to face. In a hybrid classroom, pair students who are in class with those learning from home. ![]() If you are in a remote space, this can be accomplished through virtual breakout rooms or discussion boards. Plan multiple points in your lesson to allow students to discuss learning with each other. We are able to move new information from short- to long-term memory in many ways, including discussion with peers. Teachers required self-reflection three times throughout the day. When I worked as a principal, we created our own logbooks and had them printed locally so we could intentionally build reflection into the school day. This will encourage caregivers to start discussions with students about what they wrote in their planners. Let families know about this new reflection tool, too. If you build this as an expectation across the school, you will move the entire school culture into a mode of reflection. In addition to their assignments, you can have (or even require) students to write one key lesson they learned or a question they have about the material. Many schools have students write their homework assignments in planners. Based on the age of your students, create chunks of time in your schedule for instruction followed by reflection. This helps students think about the information, process it in their own words, and compare their thinking with that of their classmates. You could say to your students, “I’m going to give you 90 seconds to write down everything you heard me say during direction instruction.” Then, after 90 seconds, have students discuss their notes with classmates. ![]() In other words, we need to “chunk” the learning that happens.įor example, after I give direct instruction for the allotted time, I could move students into a reflection activity that asks them to react to the information. This means that as we plan instruction, we should create a pace that moves students from opportunity to opportunity every eight minutes. An 8-year-old can focus on a task for about eight minutes. Students’ attention spans typically correspond with their age. Here are four teaching tips to plan your curriculum in a way that encourages student self-reflection. Move information from short- to long-term memory. When students reflect on their learning, they can: A commitment to purposeful instructional planning can help. We must create systems and processes that foster a culture of reflection in our classrooms if we are to help students reach their learning goals. Research shows that thinking deeply about a subject improves learning. Summarization and self-reported grades, for instance, are two approaches that can be particularly impactful. So, how can your rather intelligent son have no idea what he did at school today? Sound familiar? Why Is Self-Reflection Important for Students?Įducational researcher John Hattie has conducted a multitude of research studies that analyzed the effects of different teaching strategies, including those that emphasize the importance of reflection for students. Your child had seven class periods, from Spanish to geometry to western civilization. When you ask your high school student what he did at school, the response is “nothing.” Now, we all know that isn’t true. You sit down at the dinner table with your children and ask about their day.
